PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Pretentious Effort is my take on a photo album, combining my love for editorial design with the practical goal of recording my day-to-day life more. Within the pages, I allow myself to play around with layouts and styles, fun and authenticity being my guiding principles.
It's a graphic design playground, a low-pressure way of trying new techniques, exploring styles I wouldn't otherwise gravitate toward, and honing my editorial skills.
project type: personal
programs used: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, ProCreate
Why "Pretentious"?
I don’t think pretentiousness is all that bad, and is far too often, far too quickly tossed around as a critique of art and films, as a form of deflection and unwillingness to engage with these works on a deeper level. I believe that aiming to be a little pretentious is essential, and fun. Being pretentious means embracing the aesthetics of it all, means doing things with intention, and not worrying about other people’s opinions.
The Pretentious Effort is just that: an effort to live life more pretentiously, more deliberately, more fully. And capturing it as I do so.
